
About the Role
A Cytotechnologist is a laboratory professional who studies cells and cellular anomalies to help diagnose diseases, including cancer. They prepare and examine slides of human cells under a microscope, identifying abnormalities in cell size, shape, and color. Their work is crucial in detecting infections, precancerous and cancerous lesions, and other conditions.
Key Responsibilities:
Prepare slides: Staining and preparing samples of human cells for microscopic examination.
Examine samples: Using microscopes to identify abnormalities in cellular structures.
Document findings: Recording and reporting diagnostic information for pathologists.
Maintain equipment: Ensuring microscopes and other lab equipment are properly calibrated and functioning.
Follow protocols: Adhering to laboratory safety and quality assurance procedures.
Collaborate with pathologists: Working closely with pathologists to determine diagnoses.
Requirements
Education: Bachelor's degree in Cytotechnology, Biology, or a related field.
Certification: Certification from a recognized body, such as the American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP).
Experience: Previous experience as a Cytotechnologist or in a related role is preferred.
Skills: Strong attention to detail, analytical skills, and proficiency in using microscopes and lab equipment.
Interpersonal skills: Ability to communicate effectively with healthcare professionals and maintain accurate records.
