A Director of Nursing Surgical Services is responsible for overseeing the nursing operations within a surgical department. This role involves ensuring high-quality patient care, managing staff, and maintaining compliance with healthcare regulations.
Key Responsibilities:
Operational management: Oversee the daily operations of the surgical department, ensuring efficient and effective delivery of services.
Policy development: Develop and implement policies, procedures, and standards for surgical services, ensuring compliance with regulatory and accreditation standards.
Budget management: Manage the surgical services budget, including forecasting, allocation of resources, and cost control measures.
Staff leadership: Lead recruitment, hiring, training, and evaluation of surgical staff, fostering a culture of excellence and continuous improvement.
Patient care coordination: Coordinate with medical staff to ensure high-quality patient care and satisfaction, addressing any issues or concerns that arise.
Technology implementation: Implement and oversee the use of new surgical technologies and techniques, ensuring staff are properly trained and equipment is maintained.

Requirements
Education: Bachelor's degree in Nursing (BSN) or a related field; a Master's degree in Nursing (MSN) or Healthcare Administration is often preferred.
Licensure: Current state licensure as a Registered Nurse (RN).
Experience: Typically requires 5+ years of experience in a surgical or perioperative nursing role, with at least 2 years in a leadership position.
Skills: Strong leadership abilities, excellent communication skills, attention to detail, and the ability to multitask and manage complex departments.
Certifications: Certification in perioperative nursing or surgical services management is often preferred.
