
About the Role
An Echocardiograph Technologist, also known as an Echo Tech or Cardiac Sonographer, specializes in using ultrasound equipment to create images of a patient's heart. These images help cardiologists diagnose and monitor heart conditions. The technologist works closely with physicians to provide high-quality diagnostic images and data.
Key Responsibilities:
Perform echocardiograms: Conducting transthoracic echocardiograms (TTE), transesophageal echocardiograms (TEE), and stress echocardiograms.
Prepare patients: Explaining procedures, positioning patients properly, and ensuring their comfort and safety.
Operate and maintain equipment: Ensuring the echocardiography machine is properly calibrated and functioning.
Analyze and interpret data: Providing preliminary diagnostic evaluations and communicating findings to physicians.
Document patient information: Recording test results and final reports in patient medical records.
Maintain confidentiality: Following health information privacy regulations.
Continuous learning: Staying updated with advancements in echocardiographic technology and techniques.
Requirements
Education: Associate degree in Cardiovascular Technology, Ultrasound Technology, or a related field; Bachelor's degree preferred.
Certification: Certification from a recognized body, such as the American Registry for Diagnostic Medical Sonography (ARDMS).
Experience: Previous experience as an Echocardiograph Technologist is preferred.
Skills: Strong attention to detail, excellent patient service skills, and proficiency in operating and maintaining echocardiography equipment.
Interpersonal skills: Ability to communicate effectively with patients and healthcare professionals.
