
About the Role
A Respiratory Care Practitioner (RCP), also known as a Respiratory Therapist, specializes in the assessment and treatment of patients with respiratory and cardiopulmonary disorders. They work closely with physicians and other healthcare professionals to provide comprehensive respiratory care.
Key Responsibilities:
Conduct patient assessments: Perform diagnostic tests such as pulmonary function tests and arterial blood gases to evaluate patients' respiratory conditions.
Develop care plans: Create and implement individualized respiratory care plans based on patients' diagnoses and medical histories.
Administer treatments: Provide respiratory therapy treatments, including oxygen therapy, aerosol medications, and chest physiotherapy.
Manage ventilatory support: Set up and maintain ventilators, and monitor patients on mechanical ventilation.
Respond to emergencies: Assist in emergency situations, such as cardiac arrests and respiratory failures, providing immediate care.
Educate patients and families: Teach patients and their families about respiratory conditions, treatment options, and preventive measures.
Maintain records: Keep detailed records of patient interactions, treatments, and outcomes.
Collaborate with healthcare team: Work with physicians, nurses, and other healthcare professionals to coordinate patient care.
