
About the Role
A Registered Nurse (RN) is a healthcare professional who provides patient care, educates patients and the public about various health conditions, and offers emotional support to patients and their families. RNs work in various settings, including hospitals, clinics, nursing homes, and schools.
Key Responsibilities:
Patient care: Provide direct patient care, including administering medications, monitoring vital signs, and assisting with daily activities.
Patient assessment: Conduct comprehensive assessments to determine patients' health status and develop care plans.
Educate patients: Educate patients and their families about health conditions, treatments, and preventive care.
Coordinate care: Collaborate with healthcare teams to develop and implement patient care plans.
Perform procedures: Conduct medical procedures such as starting IV lines, wound care, and catheter insertion.
Document patient information: Maintain accurate and detailed patient records, including medical histories, treatment plans, and progress notes.
Provide emotional support: Offer emotional support to patients and their families, helping them cope with illness and hospitalization.
Adhere to safety protocols: Follow established safety protocols and infection control procedures to ensure a safe environment for patients and staff.
Requirements
Education: Associate's degree in Nursing (ADN) or Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) from an accredited program.
Licensure: Current state licensure as a Registered Nurse, which typically requires passing the National Council Licensure Examination for Registered Nurses (NCLEX-RN).
Experience: Clinical experience during education and possibly additional experience in a healthcare setting.
Skills: Strong clinical skills, attention to detail, excellent communication abilities, empathy, and the ability to work under pressure.
Certifications: Additional certifications in specialized areas of nursing (e.g., Pediatric Nursing, Critical Care Nursing) may be beneficial.
